Eligibility Criteria to Get a TruConnect Free Phone

TruConnect wants to help bridge the digital gap by offering free phones to eligible customers. To see if you qualify, there are two main ways:

1. Income Eligibility:

  • Nationwide: In most parts of the US (including 48 states, D.C., and Territories), your household income needs to be at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
  • California and Texas Bonus: These states offer a little extra help! If you live in CA or TX, you might qualify with a household income up to 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

2. Program Eligibility:

Helping Hand Programs: Do you or someone in your home participate in a government assistance program? If so, you might be eligible for a free TruConnect phone! Qualifying programs include:

  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, Food Stamps, Food Assistance)
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Veterans and Survivors Pension Benefit
  • Medicaid / Medi-Cal
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA) or Section 8

Tribal Lands: Live on qualifying Tribal land? You might be eligible through participation in any of the programs listed above, or through:

  • Head Start (income-qualified only)
  • Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance
  • Tribal TANF (Tribal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families)

Criteria for Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP)

The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) offer a free phone service to qualified individuals. Here’s how to see if you’re eligible:

Government Assistance Programs:

  • Already participating in programs like Medicaid, SNAP (food stamps), or WIC (nutrition for women, infants, and children) might qualify you for a free phone.
  • Veterans and Tribal programs are also included. Check the full list on the ACP website to see if your program applies.

Income Eligibility:

Don’t participate in any of those programs? No worries! You can still qualify based on your household income. If your total income falls at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, you might be eligible.

Important things to remember:

  • One phone per household: Even if multiple people in your home qualify, only one free phone service is available per address.
  • Yearly renewal required: Keep your free service going by renewing your benefits each year. It’s a quick process to ensure uninterrupted connectivity.
  • Non-transferable: The phone and service are for the approved individual only.

Think you might qualify? Check out the ACP website for more details and to see if TruConnect Wireless is a participating provider in your area. With the ACP, staying connected doesn’t have to be expensive!
