Babylon’s Fall is Square Enix’s live service game and is the latest in a long line of other titles in the genre created by Platinum Games. The developer is famous worldwide for some adrenaline-driven action games, with some of the best examples being the Bayonetta series, Revengeance and Nier, Automata Nier and Metal Gear Rising. Automata was a prominent association between Square Enix and Platinum Games, and Babylon Fall has the same hack and slashes combating system as Automata while also being an action RPG. There is also Babylons Fall and Nier Automata collaboration held for players to participate for a limited time.
But the game is seeing much less fanfare and less critical and commercially acceptance, with so many reviews in the lower part of the spectrum. Even though some reviews acclaimed its combat, they also attacked the structure and progression system of the game. This is quite obvious with Babylons Fall’s rough launch on PC with very few players who were playing the game contemporarily. With such a hostile acceptance by fanfare, it is not surprising that few players who were playing have also left.
As per SteamCharts, there are hardly a hundred concurrent players, with an average number of players playing Babylons Fall daily. But previously, it was also mentioned on the website that the game reached an all-time low based on concurrent player count. Statistics also show that merely eight people played the game concurrently at one point in the last week on April 12.
The problem with Babylons Fall continued lingering around the game, and its impact was seen with a consistent decrease in the number of players compared with last month. SteamCharts accounts that in March 2022, the number of concurrent players peaked at 1100, with only 267 players playing daily. The average concurrent player count in the last 30 days was about 136, with the peak number of players at 509, which is half of the March peak.
Besides the declining number of players and boredom among fans, the developer also stated that it would continue working on the game. This means there will be two more seasons of content for Babylons Fall, introducing a new game mode besides updating the difficulty of some modes and quests. This new season of content will bring in some new players, and those playing will remain hooked. But it all depends on how some players hop on every day, and this outcome seems quite unlikely.
